What Does a Phlebotomy Technician do?  
A phlebotomy technician is responsible for collecting blood specimens for the laboratory to help diagnose health conditions and illnesses. 

A phlebotomy technician is also responsible for prepping lab equipment, gauging a patient’s reaction to the blood draw and collecting the fluids correctly.

Some technicians will be responsible for properly disposing and shipping blood samples to laboratories outside of their place of employment, ensuring the right samples are received.

Phlebotomy is the fastest growing among all occupations according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Phlebotomy Training is a 7 week program, 2 days a week, 3 hour classes.

Training Overview

The Phlebotomy Training program follows guidelines established by the Department of Health Services in preparation

for the national Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam and employment as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

Phlebotomy Training includes:

  • Your books, supplies and uniform

  • CSS will pay for your Phlebotomy Exam

Learning Experience

  • 7 week training: 2 days a week, 3 hour classes

  • Flexibility in course access (Day and Night Classes)

  • Textbook and material provided

  • Exam prep and study guide for certification exam

  • Quality Assurance and Legal Issues in Healthcare

  • Infection Control

  • Safety & First Aid Measures

  • Medical Terminology 

  • Anatomy & Physiology

  • Blood Collection & Special Procedures

  • Successful completion of the training

  • Preparation for certification

  • A pathway to a viable healthcare career as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician
