What is a Patient Care Technician?
A patient care technician is the unsung hero of healthcare facilities, providing valuable care to patients and working closely with nurses. As a PCT, you would be responsible for assisting patients with daily tasks such as eating, dressing, and hygiene. This can be a hands-on role, so you'll need a willingness to care for others in many different ways.

Where do they work?
Patient care technicians have many options available for work location and environment. Most PCTs work in a hospital, home care agency, or a nursing home, while others work in doctors' offices, clinics, or rehabilitation centers. Additional job placement opportunities can be found through specialized training, including dialysis, emergency room, and ICU specialization.
Patient care technicians are on the front lines in healthcare facilities, helping patients with a variety of care needs. Their roles in the system include providing patient care, assisting nurses, monitoring vital signs, taking temperatures, and other duties.

There’s never been a better time to start your career as a patient care technician. As the national population continues to age, more and more assistants will be needed to perform routine administrative and clinical duties.
